Activities
The Gallery, built in 1856 and substantially extended in 2021, houses a unique collection of works by 20th C artists who have lived in N.W. Essex, eg. Edward Bawden, Eric Ravilious, Michael Rothenstein. Other contemporary works are included to demonstrate the area's continuing artistic tradition. Over forty artists are represented in the Collection - owned by The N. W. Essex Collection Trust.
Objects: The Society's Objects ("The Objects") Are The Advancement Of The Education Of The Public In The Arts By:(1) The Promotion Of Educational And Cultural Activities In The Premises At Bridge End Gardens Castle Street Saffron Walden Essex ("The Fry Art Gallery") And Elsewhere Including But Not Limited To Exhibitions Of Oil Paintings Watercolours Prints Sculpture Wallpapers Weaving Illustrated Books Ceramics And Other Works Of Art ("The Collection") Owned By The North West Essex Collection Trust ("The Collection Trust") Or Loaned To The Society; And(2) The Ownership Preservation Maintenance And Use Of The Fry Art Gallery For The Purpose Of Displaying The Collection And Other Works Of Art And Providing Facilities For Educational And Cultural Activities.
