The charity was founded in 1898 by a local man, Doctor Henry Dixon, for the benefit, education and welfare of the local people. With these objectives in mind the charity owns and maintains the Henry Dixon Hall and house endeavours, where practical, to give assistance to local voluntary and charitable organisations.

Objects: Providing A Workman's Hall And Lecture And Reading Room For Advancing The Moral, Intellectual And Social Conditions Of Working Men And Their Families Of The Parishes Of Rivenhall, Kelvedon, Witham, Braxted And Feering.
