Activities
The charity was formed to acquire from the Church Commissioners a collection of paintings by the Spanish artist Zurbaran, and in conjunction with her sister charity, The Auckland Castle Trust (Charity Reg:1146219), to enable these paintings to be seen by the general public.It also owns other paintings, furniture and artefacts that form part of the permanent exhibition at Auckland Castle
Objects: Object 1 For The Benefit Of The Public And In Particular The People Of The North-East Of England To Advance Art Culture And Heritage Including By:-(a) Acquiring And Holding In Perpetuity The Paintings (referred To Below To Be Housed At Auckland Castle In Such Locations As Are Not Likely To Cause Damage Or Deterioration To The Paintings And Which Are Available For On-Going Public Display And The Paintings Will Only Be Removed From Auckland Castle For The Purposes Of Restoration Or Temporary Public Exhibition; (b) Providing For And Facilitating The Preservation Of An Exhibition For The Public Of The Paintings And (c) Receiving On Loan And/or Acquiring And/or Providing For And Facilitating The Preservation Of Or Research Into And/or Exhibiting To The Public Other Works Of Art From Time To Time At Auckland Castle Or Elsewhere.object 2 To Advance Educationobject 3 To Relieve Poverty And Suffering In Particular By Providing Financial And Other Assistance (including The Making Of Grants) To Organisations And Individuals.object 4 Such Other Purposes As Are Exclusively Charitable Under The Laws Of England & Wales."the Paintings Means The 13 Paintings Collectively Known As The Picture Cycle Of "jacob And His Sons" Including 12 Paintings Of Jacob And His 11 Sons By Francisco De Zurbaran (1598-1664) And One Painting Of "benjamin" Painted As A Copy By Arthur Pond (1705-1758) (oil On Canvas Each Painting Approx. 80 X 41 Inches).
