Balloch Castle Country Park Regeneration Group (BCCPRG) is dedicated to restoring, preserving, and enhancing Balloch Castle Country Park for the benefit of the community, wildlife, and future generations. We work to improve the park’s natural environment, maintain historic structures, and develop recreational and educational opportunities. We achieve this through active community engagement, partnerships with West Dunbartonshire Council and other stakeholders, and fundraising initiatives. Our projects focus on biodiversity, sustainable park management, and accessibility, including woodland conservation, infrastructure improvements, and heritage restoration. By promoting volunteering, securing funding, and fostering collaboration, we ensure the park remains a welcoming space for nature, heritage, and recreation while supporting Scotland’s environmental and climate goals.

Objectives: (a) The advancement of education by working with partners to provide educational opportunities in BCCP centred around the natural environment, biodiversity, sustainability, climate change, health and wellbeing, and the heritage of the local area. Example of this is working with WDC education department to provide the forest school programme and working with Haldane Youth Services on a variety of projects. (b) The advancement of citizenship or community development through reducing the antisocial behaviour problem in BCCP to make it a safe place for the community to enjoy. By providing volunteering opportunities directly and through partnerships with voluntary organisations. Through working with stakeholders to facilitate change and improvements to BCCP in line with public needs, including restoring buildings of historic importance to the area. By regenerating BCCP to reverse the physical and social decline of the park, providing recreational facilities, and amenities for the public. (c) The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture, or science through maintaining and restoring BCCP as an outstanding natural and built environment, where national and international visitors can learn about the diverse natural environment, heritage, culture, and history of the area. By turning BCCP into a venue for the advancement of the arts and culture by restoring the built assets to provide venues for hire. (d) The advancement of public participation in sport by BCCP being a well maintained, accessible, safe, and ideally situated venue for multiple sporting activities. Both through well organised sporting events, and as a venue for individuals to partake of sport on an individual basis. (e) The provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities through maintaining BCCP as a safe natural environment for stakeholders to visit for recreational purposes. BCCP aims to do this by working with WDC and GCC to restore and improve recreational facilities and services in the park, exploring income generating opportunities whilst protecting and restoring the natural environment. (f) The advancement of environmental protection or improvement by the restoration and protection of the natural environment within BCCP and the removal of INNS. Enhancing biodiversity in the park and supporting national targets to tackle global warming. Updating and fulfilling the actions as detailed in the BCCP Woodland Management Plan commissioned and funded by the National Tree Collection, Loch Lomond & Trossachs Countryside Trust, and West Dunbartonshire Council in 2014. Working with partners to provide education opportunities centred around environmental protection and improvement.
