Objectives: To undertake and promote for the benefit of the public: 2.1. The study and enjoyment of the wildlife and natural landscape of the area encompassing North Sutherland by: (a) Encouraging a sense of community focused around the area's natural history aiming to better connect the community with the natural world. (b) Encouraging members of the community to participate in events which will enrich and improve their knowledge and experiences and assist in the protection and promotion of wildlife in North Sutherland. 2.2. The advancement of environmental protection or improvement by: (a) Raising awareness of the biodiversity within the area. (b) Encouraging the awareness, appreciation and importance of the protection and improvement of the natural environment. (c) Involving the local community in a programme to increase the biodiversity recording rates for a historically under recorded area in order to better understand the natural environment, population levels and conservation requirements for local and nationally important species. 2.3. The advancement of science by: a) Ensuring sightings reported from all sources are collated by the application of scientific methodology and submitted to the officially recognised national recording groups. b) Providing opportunities for the public to participate in scientific research and surveys. c) Providing a platform to share scientific knowledge, and stimulate scientific debate 2.4. The advancement of education by: (a) Increasing and improving the scientific knowledge and understanding within the community. (b) Organising training programmes to provide the community with relevant scientific recording and identification skills.
