(c) Involving the local community in a programme to increase the biodiversity recording rates for a historically under recorded area in order to better understand the natural environment, population levels and conservation requirements for local and nationally important species.  2.3. The advancement of science by: a) Ensuring sightings reported from all sources are collated by the application of scientific methodology and submitted to the officially recognised national recording groups. b) Providing opportunities for the public to participate in scientific research and surveys. c) Providing a platform to share scientific knowledge, and stimulate scientific debate  2.4. The advancement of education by: (a) Increasing and improving the scientific knowledge and understanding within the community.
