Activities

'It carries out activities or services itself'

'the provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended'

“Men’s Shed Govan” empowers men who are retired, unemployed or unfit for work, to take control of their mental and physical health needs, reaching a group in the community who are often isolated and struggle to engage with health services. It demonstrates the benefits to men’s wellbeing and in turn provides help in the local community. They refurbished and created a facility that provides somewhere where they can take part in meaningful activity, such as woodwork, gardening, model-making, arts, Tai chi, Chair yoga, playing games, making friends and building relationships. It has provided a sense of purpose, usefulness and optimism in the community, by helping schools, neighbours, and other groups with maintenance, repairs, creating benches and planters, and help with grass-cutting for the elderly when requested

Objectives: Purposes 4 The purpose of the organisation is to provide recreational facilities and advance the social needs, health and well being of men of all ages and backgrounds living in Govan and district. By: a) Creating, developing and maintaining a facility, namely a Men's Shed. b) Offering opportunities for men in the Covan area (including South Glasgow and Renfrew) to meet and undertake creative, physical, purposeful and recreational activities of their choice. c) Reducing isolation of men in the area thus contributing to their physical and mental wellbeing. d) Developing the capacity of men in the 6ovan area (including South Clasgow and North Renfrew) to share their skills and knowledge with others in the community.
