Clackmannanshire Field Studies Society (SCIO) was set up to increase understanding of and interest in the natural, historical and cultural heritage of the county and its environs, with a view to advancing their protection and improvement. It has always tried to achieve these aims by providing opportunities for people to learn about this heritage and to encourage them to find out more by experiencing various aspects of it via lectures, walks, site visits, field work, including surveys and archaeology, as well as documentary research. It arranges an annual lecture programme from autumn to spring on a range of subjects, both local and regional, as well as walks and site visits within and outwith the county in the summer months.

Objectives: CFSS?s purposes are to: advance public education regarding understanding of the natural and cultural heritages of Clackmannanshire and its surroundings. the advancement of environmental protection or improvement. provide recreational opportunities to experience these heritages. to advance education by encouraging investigation of and research into the natural and historical environments.
