APPENDIX 1

Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of | Another busy year with afocus on continuing to adapt ourpremises to bestfit the charity during the financial period | ourpurposes as a place to store boats, together with associated workshop facilities, while, at the same time, takingforward our volunteer work on restoring/preserving traditional wooden boats in our collection. Our work on the acquisition ofsuitable premises to create an Orkney Historic Boat Haven continued to the stage oftakingforward the production of a full Feasibility Study based on the acquisition ofthe use ofa long-time empty seafront property in Stromness, owned by Orkney Islands Council. Herring Factory In addition to improvements, restoration work continues at various stages on a number ofour boats: Saga, Nellie, Venture, Falcon and Laverne. Work has also continued on maximising the use of the available space to store boats and other artefacts.

Boat Haven The proposedfull Feasibility Study involves a Structural Survey, a Valuation and Condition Report, a Conceptual Design & Interpretation Report andfull Business Plan. Invitations to tender were issued in April/May and preferred bidders identified. Grantfinding applications were submitted in June and quickly approved. However, potential issues regarding parking held upfull approval until late October. Unfortunately, in November, a significantfire in a shed on an adjacent property caused collateral damage, which caused access to the building to be restricted until early in 2025. By the end ofFebruary the Structural and Condition Reports had been completed, indicating that, while there were matters requiring attention, the building was structurally sound and would be suitablefor development into a museum space. Acquisitions A ten foot Orkney Dinghyjoined our collection in February 2025. It was built in Flotta (c1910— 1920) for the JMF Groatfamilyfor use as a tenderfor one ofthe boats used in their grocery and provisions business in Scapa Flow during WW1( Cingalee, already in our collection). Fundraising In April 2024, the planned talk on the North West Passage by Capt Maiwenn Beadlefinally tookplace. The much enjoyed talk was also a very successful fundraiser, bringing in a total of£1024. In February 2025, we had a week in the Blue Door Charity Shop in Kirkwall. This was well supported by our volunteers, relatives andfriends. The kind donation of raffle prizes and wonderful home bakes contributed to another very successful event which raised £2.133. Tools and equipment Among the items being built or refurnished to add to ourfacilities this year have been a mobile 3 Tonne lifting gantry and a French cleat tool storage unit together with tools (OIC grant £550 contribution). Also, a Circular Saw was provided by HIS at a significantly reduced purchase price. Newsletter Another excellent Christmas Newsletter, with details ofall our activities and developments over the year, was produced and distributed to all members, as well as being posted on the OHBS website. All our activities are shared publicly on our website (OHBS.net ) and on our FaceBook page (https://www.facebook.com/orkneyhistoricboatsociety)
