The charity is set up to preserve the history and artefacts of the Scottish Fire Brigades, to act as a contact point for academics and interested parties who want information either for research or historical referencing and for families interested in firefighter's service history or incidents. In addition to these functions it carries out restoration and servicing of vintage fire appliances and apparatus, as a stand alone organisation or in cooperation with partnership agencies who share or support the work that is done. The Trust also promotes the Scottish Fire And Rescue Service in its work in Community Safety across Scotland, making communities safer and by interacting with the community at public events advertising and supporting the Service's recruitment of members of the public. The Trust provides volunteers to staff the Greenock Fire and Heritage Museum which is seen nationally as a premier tourist visitor attraction and currently holds a 4 Star, Visit Scotland status.
