ARCH was established in 2009 to provide a broad spectrum of activities encouraging people to learn about, participate in and preserve their local heritage. ARCH does this by providing courses (indoors and out), workshops, events, walks, digs, school visits, lectures, surveys, festivals, a website and Facebook with information and links, and other activities which promote heritage in the Highlands. All activities are as accessible as possible, both in terms of physical access and cost, and are open to all regardless of previous past experience. Objectives: The organisation’s purposes are: (i) The advancement of education by arranging and supporting projects and events, formal and informal, which will enable communities in the Highlands, and others, to learn about, and the skills to engage with, the heritage and archaeology of the Highlands. the advancement of citizenship or community development by working with Highland communities to enhance their sense of place, their community cohesion, and their understanding of history and heritage. (ii) The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture, or science in the Highlands by a. Supporting communities in the Highlands to be curious about, engage with, and undertake further research in, their local heritage and archaeology. b. recording the past, with all relevant media including digital media, photographs, drawings, plans or memories, to be made widely available on websites, Historic Environment Records, and local archives, and other media. c. undertaking relevant heritage and archaeological projects which add to the public record of our heritage, and…… d. promoting awareness and understanding of the Highland’s heritage by arranging discussion sessions, exploratory walks, producing publications, and participating in public events.
