The aims of M&DSP are to meet the social, swim learning, leisure and recreational needs of the local community as well as visitors to the area. The Centre is a key amenity, and one of the few wet weather attractions for tourists. Mallaig is a medium sized fishing port, in an area with many rivers and lochs. The primary objective of the facility, when it was built almost thirty years ago, was to provide swimming tuition for pre-school and school age children to enable them to enjoy water in safety. The pool has proven highly successful in meeting this objective and today offers comprehensive tuition with skilled teachers across primary and secondary school, as well as private lessons for all age groups during holiday periods. The business has since strived to diversify as a hub for health and fitness. The facility encourages an active lifestyle among the local population and works closely with the public sector, particularly schools, within the area.

Objectives: Subject to that over-riding qualification, the company's objects are:- (a) To establish and operate a swimming pool and related facilities in Mallaig and surrounding district for recreational and educational benefit and in the interests of the social welfare of persons in North Morar, the Small Isles of Rhum, Muck, Canna and Eigg and the Knoydart Peninsula. (Hereinafter referred to as the Area of Benefits') (b) To provide training in the skills of lifesaving, resuscitation and such other skills as would be of assistance to a person endeavouring to save life and to provide courses for fishermen in safety procedures. (c) To provide relief for persons suffering from a mental and/or physical disability or impairment through the provision of therapy within a swimming pool environment. (d) To arrange and promote lectures, demonstrations and competitions and to form classes of instruction so as to bring about a widespread and thorough knowledge of the principles which underlie the art of swimming and to promote and encourage the teaching of swimming and lifesaving in schools, colleges and other educational establishments . (e) To provide in the interests of social welfare, facilities for recreation and other leisure time activities available to the public at large within the Area of Benefit with a view to improving their conditions of life (f) To advance education by the promotion and provision of an audio-visual training facility. (g) To promote industry and commerce within the Area of Benefit for the benefit of the general public
