Tracy Traver5e-Burley was appolnted as chalr of tru5tee5 by the full board on 16 November 2024. Trustees are appointed by the board of trustees. Objectives and Artlvltles The objects of the CIO are: The relief of slckness and distress and the protection and preservation of the health of persons affected by CMN and their families and carers. in particular. but not restricted to: lal The advancement of the education of the medical profession and the general public into CMN and its Implications for the family* and Ibl The promotion of research into the causes. effects, treatments and management of CMN and to di55eminate the useful results theof. The charity activities to achieve this are: Grant applications and fundraising events Strong support Strategy forCMN members Training of our regional support contarts Host national. regional and age-specific support events across the UK Host online support events and community groups Production and distribution of CMN publlcations= Inspire Magazlne. support literature, medical booklet Productlon and distribution of CMN merchandise Raising the CMN profile through media & website Exhlbiting at international conferences to raise awareness of the condltion and the charity In setting objectives and plannlng activities, the trustees have given due consideration to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit and in particular, to its supplementary public benefit guidance on the relief of those in need. by reason of ill-health or other disadvanta8e (physical di5figurementl.
The charty's day-to-day operations are managed by a Chief ExecutNe, who is supported by 4 members of staff,. Head of Support. Head of Finance, Comms and Engagement Coordinator and Support Coordinator. The charity has a core group of volunteers who assist the stsff in delivering our support, fundraising and communications strategy. Achievements and PerfOrnnce Undertook a larger piece of work to restructure staff role5. Setting clear boundaries for each role which complement the newly recruited volunteerin8 roles. Recruited volunteers for key roles to support wider operational tasks within the charity. includin& merchandise. bulk mail-outs. graphic design, social media engagement and conference exhibitors. Continued to strengthen our brand awareness by enhancin8 our social media footprint. improving website content and producing new support materials and fundraising campaigns. Developed our Support Pathway ensuring tailored support is provided to all members. with speciflc focus on developing a Self-Advocacy Pack and Adult Support Guide. as well as updating the CMN medical booklet. Continued to host online communities for families affected by CMN. including a gaming community tailored to attract 'dads and lads,. a monthly baby & toddler group. new members meeting and our annual online research presentation. Hosted 8 regional support events across the UK, providing children. teenagers and adults with team- building activities to build friendships, share experiences and seek advice and support in a safe and relaxed setting. The events prowde parents with opportunities to share experiences and recetve expert advice from our support contsct team. The support contart team has continued to offer regional support to members across the UK. We have 24 support contacts based around the UK. Hosted our annual training and information day forourvolunteer team. The training day provided an opportunity for our support contacts to leam more akxjut the CMN research. to hear about charity developments. to partitipate in support training delivered by a professional counsellor, and to share their experien5 of providing support to members. Designed and produced our annual sUPPOrt magazine entitled INSPIRE. The magazine Is sent to all charty members and includes support advice. fundraising stories. charity news and research updates. Provided funding to advance the dedicated CMN searCh at Great Om)ond Street Hospital, which has made huge headway into understanding the causes of CMN, and now working towards a ture. Continued to provide parents of a new-bom baby affected by CMN the opportunity to book an initial hour-long support consultation wtth the charitvs Support Pathway Practitioner. The consultation gives parents an invaluable opportunity to receive immediate advice, sUPPOrt and reassurance. Parents can book a support consultation by either emailing the charity or by calling our dedicated Support Helpline.
Attended 3 medical conferences to raise awareness of CMN amongst Dem)atologists. Nurses and Midwives. Developed our fundraising strategy by developing regional fundraising webpages. Increased and maintained merchandise range to a55iSt with building brand awareness and to raise additional funds. Participated in the Rare Diseases Day Feb 2025 to raise the profile of CMN. Produced new Policies and Procedures, as well as reviewin8 current policie5 and procedures. Flnan¢ial Review The Charity spends its funds very carefully and always in accordance with relevant charity rules and legislation to support its 3 clear charitable aims- to support those affected by CMN, to fund CMN research, and to raise awareness at#)ut CMN. Support- We have prowded finan5 for supporting those affected by CMN. This included funding in-person and online support events along wlth printed support material. Awareness - We have funded awareness campaigns to raise the profile of CMN on a global scale. as well as attending national medical conferences to educate doctors, nurses and midwives about CMN. Research-Through grants recerved and research donations, we have been able to fund the pioneering research undertaken by Professor Kinsler and her team. In the current year, grants were made to University College London to the value of £138,03812024 £170.750}- The charity doe5 not investfunds outside of the nomial banking facilities. Thetrustees review financial requirements and in doing so, areas of activity. funding sources, future need5, Opportunities. contingencies, and risks are all du considered. Resekyes Pollcy The level of reserves is reviewed annual against the charity expenditure. The cash reserve policy is to remain at £75,LKIO. These funds are invested in 3 month and 9 month fixed term accounts. Tru5tees' Responsibilities Statement The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees, Annual Report and the finanoal statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Prartice). The law applicable to chorities in England & Waks requires the trustee5 to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that period. In preparing these financial statements. the trustees are required to: select suitable accounting policies and then appty them consistently: observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP 2019 IFRS 1021-
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; state whether applicable accountin8 stsndards have been followed. subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements- prepare the financial statements on the going concem basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation. The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial posttion of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements complyvlith the CharitiesAct 2011, the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the trust deed. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hentr for takin8 reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
