| Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public beneft in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public beneft) |
The objects of the CIO ("the objects") are to promote, for the beneft of the public, the preservation, conservation and protection of East Africa's wildlife and natural heritage, and to advance, for the beneft of the public, education in the principles and practices of conservation. |
|---|---|
| Conserving endangered species and the environments on which they depend through community land leases in Mara Region, Kenya and Kisampa Conservancy, Southern Tanzania. Promoting for the public beneft efective management of habitats populated by endangered species and ensuring the sustainability of such populations in the context of the other uses to which such habitats are put through equipping and training local scouts while promoting low-impact tourism in the areas under lease. Establishing and promoting the application of a broad set of principles standards and criteria designed to ensure that such other uses do not have an adverse impact on fulflling the objective of conserving wildlife habitats. Namely the upkeep and introduction of predator proof structures to the Mara North Mobile Cattle Boma. Providing support for the communities surrounding these areas through school bursaries, school renovation at Ole Moncho School and providing sports equipment. All encouraging the public engagement in the protection of their natural spaces. Protection of wildlife through daily monitoring, patrol and snare collection across the protected habitat. The trustees have read the guidance on public beneft issued by the charities commission. We have also engaged the professional services of Pesh Framjee, Global Head of Social Purpose and Non-Profts, Crowe U.K. LLP to advise us in regard to these guidelines when planning the activities for the charity. |

Grant making
The trustees have reviewed and will follow the Charity Commission’s guidance on grants to non-charities and its publication ‘Charities: due diligence, monitoring and verifying the end use of charitable funds.
You may choose to include further statements, where relevant, about:
-
policy on grantmaking;
-
policy programme related investment;
-
contribution made by volunteers.
The grant making policy is being developed and the projects and initiatives that will be supported will be based on criteria that support the CIO’s charitable objectives. For example, they must be:
-
operating within or part of the community surrounding community wildlife conservancies
-
minimizing negative environmental impact and promoting preservation of wildlife and sustainable land use.
-
meeting our ideals of sustainable community development through education, training and micro financing with encouragement given to projects that act to empower women and girls.
When making grants to organisations the CIO will make restricted grants only for activities, services or outcomes that will further its charity’s purposes for the public benefit. Where core costs are being funded, they will be limited to those specified activities, services or outcomes.
When making grants to individuals any private benefit will be incidental to the charitable purposes. The CIO will receive feedback on how the funds have been applied and this will be reported to donors.

Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
There were major challenges in the year 10/09/2020 - 14/08/2021 in registering with Charities Commission, HMRC and registering and opening a bank account.
All three of these delays were caused by the Covid 19 Pandemic, delaying our opening of the account, and of course this held back our ability to raise funds, plan our projects, action our work and distribute those funds accordingly.
During this time, we maintained protection of the habitat in Tanzania and in Kenya – total of 10,000 acres. We assisted with school fees through bursaries where possible and reduced human wildlife conflict through upkeeping predator proof cattle enclosures in Mara North Conservancy.
