The charity has a general charitable purpose of maintaining & restoring the Community Orchard & Meadow. It is also responsible for making the land available to the community of Littlehempston. These uses may include but are not limited to ensuring that it is a Community resource, accessible to all & is owned & held in the Community's ownership in perpetuity, never to be sold on or developed on.

Objects: The Objects Of The CIO Are:3.1 To Promote, For The Benefit Of The Public, The Conservation, Protection And Improvement Of The Physical And Natural Environment Of Littlehempston Community Orchard And Meadow, Littlehempston, Totnes, Devon;3.2 To Advance The Education Of The Public In Biodiversity Of The Orchard And Meadow And Rural Skills, In Particular But Not Exclusively By Means Of Training And Lectures/talks;3.3 To Provide Or Assist In The Provision Of Facilities In The Interests Of Social Welfare For Recreation Or Other Leisure Time Occupation Of Individuals Who Have Need Of Such Facilities By Reason Of Their Youth, Age, Infirmity Or Disability, Financial Hardship Or Social Circumstances Or For The Public At Large With The Object Of Improving Their Conditions Of Life.
