Achievements and Performance

SORP reference

Summary of the main achievements of the charPara 1.20 ity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole.

Two major activities particularly characterised this year. In July 2022 a group of Grenfell Tower Fire survivors and others directly affected by the fire were brought down to Cornwall for a respite break. At this time, Cornwall Hugs was invited to meet with HRH Prince Charles and HRH Duchess of Cornwall in Mousehole to present the work of the charity and to introduce these guests, representing Grenfell United, with the specific purpose of speaking to them about their situation five years after the tragedy and the community’s ongoing need for support and justice. The charity also worked to offer support, both practical and emotional, to some of the Ukrainian refugees who had come to live in Cornwall. This included organising a communitybuilding excursion for 14 refugee families and their Cornish hosts as guests of Lord and Lady St Levan on St Michael’s Mount. The charity continued to support the Grenfell community with solidarity, including at the 5th anniversary memorials in London.

Financial Review

ncial Review
Review of the charity’s fin-
ancial position at the end of
the period
Para 1.21 In its fifth year of operation, the charity
received £920 in donations and miscel-
laneous income, and incurred expendit-
ure of £6,971. Having begun the year
with reserves of £37,972 , it meant that
the charity ended the financial year with a
balance at the end of the financial year of
£31,921. The charity’s expenditure in-
cluded £5,163 on providing for its Grenfell
and Ukrainian guests.
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 The charity began its fifth year with re-
serves of £37,972 and ended with re-
serves of £31,921. In the expectation
that the flow of donations would lessen as
time elapsed since the tragedy, and that
also the offering of suitable holiday ac-
commodation by local providers would
similarly lessen, the intention of the trust-
ees remains to use its reserves to contin-
ue to provide holidays for those affected
by the Grenfell Tower Fire into the sixth
year of its existence. The Trustees were
also mindful of the ongoing need of the
Ukrainian refugees.
