AMF was established to help support patents and their families with mesothelioma, to aid research and fund essential equipment.

Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its Mesothelioma is a devastating disease with about 2700 new cases being governing document diagnosed every year. There is no cure and is life limiting and therefore research is paramount.

The AMF trustees will review applications for research grants and funding

applications and aims to support top quality national and local research with an aim to improve treatment options and care for patients with this disease.

A previous grant application for the funding of 1 year of a 3 year PhD post (mesothelioma research) was paid = £45 353.15.

Another previous grant application for the funding of a long survivors of mesothelioma project (BAP1s and histology review is still ongoing – up to £10 000 awarded.

The following funding applications were reviewed by the Trustees and approved;

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

By agreeing to the above expenditure, the Trustees have kept in mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit. They have also considered maintaining a reserve of at least £50 000 in the AMF account.

The funding of the PhD student, the project in long survivors of mesothelioma and validating a scoring system will provide patients with an opportunity to participate in quality research projects which will aim to improve treatments and quality of life for patients with mesothelioma in the future.

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

The main achievement for AMF over this time period was the funding of a research registrar, Dr Geraldine Lynch, who commenced her PhD in mesothelioma research in August 2022 and continues to deliver high quality research in mesothelioma.

It has also helped to fund a PhD student to work on a project on the management Malignant Pleural Effusions (MPE) which will benefit the quality of life for mesothelioma patients.

It has also funded 2 important ongoing projects in mesothelioma, both aim to benefit patients with mesothelioma in the future. It is hoped the results of these research studies will be presented at conference and shared with the local mesothelioma support group (Bristol and Beyond Asbestos Family Support, BBAFS) as well written up for publication in a medical journal.

Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 102} {effective l January 20191,, Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland, and the Charities Act 2011. The financial Statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention. Income All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.
