The purposes of the Institute as set out in its Charter are:(a) to promote and advance public health by encouraging active participation in sport or other healthy recreation for the public benefit; and(b) to promote for the public benefit the safety of facilities and services provided for active participation in sport or healthy recreation;

Objects: (a)to Promote And Advance Public Health By Encouraging Active Participation In Sport Or Other Healthy Recreation For The Public Benefit; And(b)to Promote For The Public Benefit The Safety Of Facilities And Services Provided For Active Participation In Sport Or Healthy Recreation In Particular (but Not Exclusively) By:(i)promoting Excellence In The Management And Development Of Such Facilities And Services, Including Sporting And Recreational Events And Sports Tourism;(ii)advancing Education, Practical Training And The Dissemination Of Knowledge Amongst Practitioners Employed Or Engaged In The Provision Of Such Facilities And Services; And(iii)carrying Out Or Promoting Research Into, And Promoting Awareness And Understanding Of The Health And Other Benefits Of Well Managed Sport And Recreation Facilities And Services.
