Activities
ELCAP is a local charitable organisation run by local people for local people providing training and educational opportunities, childcare and support as well as social and recreational activities. We work in partnership with many other organisations who complement the services we provide.
Objects: The charity's objects (?Objects?) are specifically restricted to the following: 4.1 To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Easington Lane, Hetton, Houghton-le-Spring and surrounding areas without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, nationality, race or of political, religious or other opinions, by associating together the said inhabitants and the statutory authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants;4.2 To establish, or secure the establishment of, a Community Centre and to maintain and manage the same (whether alone or in co-operation with any statutory authority or other person or body) in furtherance of the Objects;4.3 To provide transport facilities in the area of benefit for people who have special need of such facilities because they are elderly, poor or disabled, people with young children or those living in isolated areas where there are no adequate public transport facilities.4.4 To relieve financial hardship, sickness and poor health amongst elderly people .4.5 To advance education by the establishment and maintenance of a museum.4.6 To promote social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing people from becoming socially excluded, relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society. For the purpose of this clause ?socially excluded? means being excluded from society, or parts of society, as a result of one of more of the following factors: unemployment; financial hardship; youth or old age; ill health (physical or mental); substance abuse or dependency including alcohol and drugs; discrimination on the grounds of sex, race, disability, ethnic origin, religion, belief, creed, sexual orientation or gender re-assignment; poor educational or skills attainment; relationship and family breakdown; poor housing (that is housing that does not meet basic habitable standards; crime (either as a victim of crime or as an offender rehabilitating into society).4.7 The advancement or promotion of good health including the prevention or relief of sickness, disease or human suffering. The Charity shall be non-party in politics and non-sectarian in religion. The area of benefit shall be Easington Lane, Hetton, Houghton-le-Spring and surrounding areas.
