Promotes the art of literature for the public benefit. In particular, it fosters & promotes contemporary fiction of literary merit by awarding the annual Booker Prize to the author of the year's best novel originally written in English and published in the UK. The International Booker Prize is awarded annually for the best novel in English translation.
