The James M MacLaren Society was established in 2004 to promote and encourage the development of interest in, and protection of, works by James Marjoribanks MacLaren, pioneer Arts & Crafts architect. The Society holds an annual lecture, in person or online, on some aspect of MacLaren's work or his influence on the work of successors. It also publishes an annual journal of articles regarding MacLaren's work and that of his contemporaries and successors in the Arts & Crafts movement. Plans are being developed for events to mark the 175th anniversary of MacLaren's birth in 2028.

Objectives: The organisation’s purposes are: To encourage the development of interest in the work of James Marjoribanks MacLaren, Arts & Crafts architect, and promote the advancement of study and appreciation of his influence and impact on the Arts & Crafts and Scottish vernacular movement. To protect the architectural and social heritage of the work of James M MacLaren.
