AACT is set up to benefit the community around the Astley Ainslie Hospital site in Edinburgh. Areas in which we aspire to contribute are: community development: health, rehabilitation and well-being: environmental protection or improvement. heritage, culture and history. We run events within the community involving volunteers, consult with NHS Lothian, the City of Edinburgh Council Planning Department, the Scottish Government, with relevant local and national politicians, with potential partner organisations and other supporters. We run funded projects with these ends in mind. Our most recent project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, was to interview past patients and staff at the Hospital, together with community users of the site, to create a local public exhibition with photographs and sound recordings, to illustrate the history of the site. Content of the exhibition has been archived to provide an accessible public resource in future.
