2. Structure, governance and management

Rojava Kurdish Community is a Scottish charity. The charity is governed in accordance with its constitution and is managed by the trustees, who are responsible for overseeing the charity’s activities, finances, and compliance. The trustees meet as required during the year to plan activities, review progress and ensure the charity remains focused on delivering public benefit.

3. Purposes (objectives) of the charity

The charity’s purposes, as set out in its constitution, are:

• To advance community development by offering a range of activities that will bring together individuals and families from the Kurdish community, with the aim of improving wellbeing and helping people who are new to Scotland to resettle.

• To advance Kurdish heritage and culture by providing opportunities for the wider community to come together and celebrate Kurdish traditions and celebrations, encouraging people from other communities to join and learn about our culture through activities such as music, dance and costume.

• To advance education by providing learning opportunities delivered by members of the Kurdish community, to help people to embrace their culture and develop skills.

4. Activities and achievements during the period

Since registering the charity, the trustees and volunteers have delivered a range of community, cultural and educational activities. The charity’s main focus has been to support Kurdish families in Glasgow by providing opportunities to learn the Kurdish language, connect with others, and take part in cultural celebrations.

Kurdish language classes (children)

Throughout the year the charity delivered Kurdish language classes for children. These classes support the advancement of education and help young people to maintain their language and cultural identity. The classes were usually held at Barmulloch Residents Centre, 54 Quarrywood Rd, Glasgow G21 3ET.

Kurdish language classes (adults and women)

In September 2025, the charity expanded its education work by starting Kurdish language classes for adults and women, delivered in the same venue.

Cultural and community events

The charity organised a number of cultural and community gatherings during the period, including a Newroz celebration on 21 March 2025; an Eid al-Fitr community gathering on 30 March 2025; and an Eid al-Adha event and children’s course graduation gathering on 08 June 2025. The charity also held member meetings and family gatherings across the year to maintain community connections and support wellbeing.

The Kurdish classes were delivered by Kurdish teachers who volunteered their time and skills. The trustees would like to thank all volunteers and community members who supported activities during the year.

5. Financial review

The charity’s accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis. During the period the charity received unrestricted income from donations and fundraising and also received a restricted grant, which can only be used for specific activities in line with the grant conditions. The trustees monitor expenditure to ensure restricted funding is applied appropriately and that the charity remains financially sustainable.

6. Plans for the next financial period

In the coming year the charity plans to continue delivering Kurdish language classes for children and adults, and to run community and cultural events that support wellbeing, community integration and the celebration of Kurdish heritage.

4. Notes to the Financial Information

4.1 Basis of preparation

These accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis, using the cash transactions shown on the charity bank statements for the period stated above.

4.2 Restricted funds

During the period the charity received a restricted grant of £7,500.00. This funding can only be used for specific activities in line with the grant conditions. Between August 2025 and December 2025 the charity spent £3,340.80 on eligible restricted activity costs. The restricted funds balance carried forward at 31 December 2025 was £4,159.20.

4.3 Bank and cash

At the end of the financial period, the charity held £3,378.02 in its bank account. No cash was held separately outside the bank account.

The charity trustees are responsible for preparing the accounts in accordance with the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and all other applicable regulations. My responsibility is to examine the accounts in accordance with OSCR guidance and to report to the trustees.

Basis of independent examination

My examination was carried out in accordance with OSCR guidance on the independent examination of charity accounts. This includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and comparison of the accounts presented with those records.
