Presidents report 2024/2025
The club has continued to go forward from strength to strength again this year. We started the year off with a club trip to see one of our junior leaders performing in “Legally Blonde” at the Edinburgh Fringe. Soon after that our juniors put on a fantastic show entitled “Shrek Jr” which was extremely well received by its almost sell out audiences. A massive thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make this show the huge success it was.
Almost immediately after the final curtain came down on Shrek, we started rehearsals for our annual panto, which this year was “Rapunzel” directed by one of our former junior members, iin It’s lovely to see members progressing through the club and watching their journey from chorus member to producer/ director and in some cases on to professional theatre. Rapunzel was again extremely well received by our audience and completely sold out before the curtain had even risen in its first performance. Many thanks to | Ee to everyone else involved in any way in making panto the phenomenal success it was as there are way too many to mention individually. During the year we also held several social events including after show parties, quizzes, film nights and even a CPR training evening. We finished the social year off with our traditional Hogmanay party. Again, thanks to our social convenors and to all the other members who helped to make these events possible this year. We participated in several community events including the Showcase at Scottish Week, Awarding Wigtownshire, Fairies at CK, carolling at the “lights switch on” among others, well done everyone on creating such a great presence in the community for our club. After Christmas and New Year, our juniors decided to do something different and instead of entering the SCDA one act festival this year they decided to stave our own “showcase” and junior awards evening in the Millennium Centre. This was a fantastic and entertaining evening, thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended. A huge thanks to our junior leaders and everyone else who pulled out all the stops to make this event possible and the huge success it was.
Recently we held our annual auditions for new junior members. This year again there was a good turnout of kids wanting to join the club. Many thanks to our junior leaders for all their hard work again this year.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank the committee for their hard work over the past year and a very very well done to our Backstage Team for being nominated and shortlisted for Volunteer of the Year award at Awarding Wigtownshire, good luck guys. | look forward to our upcoming shows this year, starting withae: the chocolate factory in the autumn. a President
