The Wash House is committed to providing a friendly and welcoming meeting space and base for activities for local people, as well as a vibrant venue for both local and nationwide cultural events. Owned by the City of Edinburgh Council, the centre is run by a voluntary management committee who are responsible for managing the centre and ensuring financial and community accountability.

Beneficiaries: 'No specific group, or for the benefit of the community'

Objectives: 4.1 To advance education and to provide, or assist in the provision of, facilities for recreation or other leisure-time occupation where such provision or assistance in provision a) Is in the interest of social welfare. and b) Is made with the object of improving the conditions of life of the members of the community in the Area of Benefit which shall be Portobello and other areas within the City of Edinburgh and surrounds. c) And for those purposes to associate with the City of Edinburgh Council (hereinafter “the Council”), voluntary organisations and inhabitants in the Area of Benefit. 4.2 To advance citizenship and community development within the area of benefit through the operation of a community centre for the said beneficiaries. 4.3 To co-operate with the Council and its successors in office in establishing, maintaining and managing and community centre situate in the Area of Benefit which is provided or grant-aided by the Council in so far as it is established, maintained and managed for the attainment of objects 4.1 and 4.2 of the association.
