Carnegie Harriers Annual Report and Financial Statements for the Year ended 31st March 2025 Charity Number SC1051520 Carnegie Harriers SCIO 51520
CARNEGIE HARRIERS ANNUAL REPORT 2024/25 Membershlp on 31 March 2025 stood at 141 (137 full and 4 assoclate members), a 6% decrease on 2024. The club continued to attract new members throughout the year. In spring 2024, we launched the second "Couch2Carnegie" a Jogscotland style group almed at those new to running or looking to get back Into the sport. Almost half of those who attended the eight-week programme on a re8ular basis have now joined the club as full members. Those who chose not to join the club appreciated the support they were given wlth thelr runnlng. Although the Return to Running group has not formally operated over the past 12 months, members return5n8 after injury, tapering for a blg event or otherwlse do have the option to come along to training and take thlngs easler, perhaps going for a gentle run rather than a full-on trainin8 session. These initlatives complemented our regular twice weekly sessions and we actively encourage prospective new members to corne along to our training sessions for several weeks before committing to joining the club. Training is delivered by a training group cornprising a Level 2 Coach in Running Fitness and several Leaders In Runnlng Fitness. The club supports members who wlsh to work towards these qualifications. Throughout the year we organised a members, only competition series embraclng road, trall, cr055-country and hill races both locally and natlonally. The revlsed format wlth more local, club organlsed events and fewer event5 overall has proved popular with many club members being inspired to try out new races and new types of events. 78 members competed in at least one race In the serles. Thls Is sli8htly lower than last year but, 41 member5 completed at least one marathon or ultra in the yearp perhaps leaving less tlme for shorter events. The aim Is to cater for as wide a range of Interests and ablllt5es as p055ible, and encourage members to try different disciplines, whilst tryin8 to reduce/restrict the costs of competing at this time. During 2024125 we were, once a8aln, able to host the Graham Clark Memorial Race. Unfortunately Storm Eowyn caused Significant damage to Oevilla Forest and we were forced to cancel the 2025 Devilla Forest Trail Races. While the Graham Clark race proved very popular and Indeed entrles sold out In one nlght, the cancellation of our popular Devllla Tra51 races has impacted on the club's income for the year. The club'5 succe¥s is due, ifi large paft, to Its volunteers. The trustee board has worked'on several initiatlves to Improve communlcation within the club and promote our activities to a wider audience usin8 social media, as well a5 overseeing the day-to-day running of the club. Over 60% of club members have volunteered at least once ifl the past y¢ar to support not only club activities but external events as well. Over the comin8 year, we will continue to work on our training provision, Introducing new session5 and training venues and recrultlng more people to lead the sessions. We will aim to recruit new members to the club, by caterin8 for different levels of experience and ability and support existin8 members who may be finding it more difficult to get out and run. Costs were also Incurred for the soclal event, prlmarlly the venue hlre and caterlng costs at Pitreavie Golf Club. These were largely offset by ticket sales to mernbers. IT Costs were higher this year. as me moved away from our Google based emails to Mlcrosoft. Costs of this rnigration plus monthly support and licensing saw these costs Increase. Other costs included the Zoom 5ub5cription we have relied upon these last few years for some of our Committee meetin85. This expense has corne to an end, as we now use Teams via our Microsoft License. Independent Review The independent review was performed remotely vla email, wlth d¢xuments shared electronlcally. conslstent wlth the approach of recent years. Conclusion Thls has been a challenglng year flnanclally for the club, reporting an unexpected deficit. This was largely due to the Devllla cancellation in February. The club remains In a healthy financial position due to the reserves we have maintained to mitigate such circumstances. Any surplus funds are relnvested In the club to malntaln our lon8-term flnanclal security, The club will maSntaSn a financial reserve to meet costs and Ilabllltles occurrln8 due to unforeseen clrcumstances. For example: al the need to replace club assets if destroyed or damaged: bl unexpected. late cancellatlon of the Devllla Forest Race, The club enters 2025-26 in good shape and looks forward to another successful year. I would Ilke to Issue thanks to the committee members for thelr support and dS118ence In ensurln8 our finances remain so well controlled. Carnegie Harrier5 SCIO 51520
Carnegie Harriers (SCIO 51520) - Treasurerfs Report 2024-25 Treasurer: Brian Mlller Introduction I hereby present the Treasurerfs Re ort and Annual Accounts, as independently reviewed by The Harriers, financial year follows a con515tent pattern. with membership income and race events occurring at the same point of the calendar each year. One slgnlficant exception this year was the unfortunate cancellation of the annual Devilla races, This was due to storm damage on the course. The lack of Devilla incorne saw the Club post a financial deflcit of £1,070 this year. Incon)e Membershlp Income received durlng the year is as detailed in the Notesto the Accounts15ee Appendix
3). The rnajority of members signed up vla Entry Central, where the Club met the 5% Admin Fee.
Membershlp fees were frozen this year, after a IO% Increase the prevlous year. Only one of our h05ted races went ahead this year, after storm damage in Devilla Forest. We incurred an admln charge and a loss of £446 for processing entrfes/refunds. 100% of the Graham Clark profit5 {EI,3CX)I were donatedto charity. Therefore, race Income forthe yearwas slgniflcantly reducedversus last year and Is the main contributor to this year's deficit. Clothln8 sales were significantly lower this year and reverted to the norm, as there was a concerted effort last year to sell old clothln8 Items to members at a reduced prlce. The club organlsed a soclal event In Avlemore In November 2024. Cash was paid to the club by all member5 planning to attend. This was paid to the Aviemore yOh Hostel to secure accommodatlon for the weekend- the event was well attended and self-funded to break even. The club Is repeatin8 thls event in November 2025, albeit to Oban rather than Aviemore. Members have paid deposlts to secure accommodation at the local Youth Hostel. Final payments to be made later In the year. Again, this event IS 5elf-funded and expected to break even. The Chrlstmas Soclal Event was another source of income this year- organised via Entry Central. This was essentially a Not-for-Profit event, but ran a small surplus this year after we re-used some of the party decoration5 from last year. In late 2024, the club helped to host one of the East Dlstrlci Cross Country event5 in Kirkcaldy. The East District organlsers donated £200 to the club to recognise the effort of volunteers. This Is recorded In Miscellaneous Income along with £20 received as 'cash-back' from a deal with High 5. Expenditure There are a number of membership expen5e5 that are incurred every year as part of the club's operations. Scottish Athletics Affiliation Fees, GP Prizes, Trophies, Website, etc, and these were much in line with expectations. Overall, membership costs were hlgher than 2024 (Appendlx #3), malnty due to the purchase of a deflbrillator and a new club laptop. Expenses for ere in Ilne with budgeL Carnegie Harriers SCIO 51520
