Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the financial period
The Club has had another busy year with the culmination of a number of years hard work and planning coming to fruition in July when Orkney hosted the 2025 International Island Games. It was a hugely successful event overall but the athletics and half marathon events were especially memorable for the Club with a number of club athletes winning medals. A lot of positive feedback was received from visiting teams, athletes and members of the public for the organisation of these events which was led by OARC volunteers.
Both the senior and junior sections continue to thrive through the dedicated support of the volunteer coaching team, club volunteers and club manager. - Membership numbers in early 2025 were recorded as 146 Juniors and 97 Seniors. - Primary training was held once a week in four blocks during the year for an average of 60 athletes.
- Secondary training was held weekly across three nights a week throughout the year, only breaking for the Christmas holidays, Island Games and October holidays, for an average of 55 athletes.
~ Weekly mid-week track sessions were run for Senior athletes attracting new members throughout the year. Average attendance has been around 15 members.
The Club successfully ran the following events during the year: - Three open home competitions, one home championship and the International Island Games Athletics - Three road race/ endurance events plus the Island Games Half Marathon - Two Club away trips to competitions in Inverness and Grangemouth plus Junior Inter County in Shetland - Christmas end of term fun session
- (Annual Awards ceremony was postponed)
Other notable achievements were:
- Ongoing progress with officials training and coach training - Maintaining all ‘behind the scenes’ actions required to keep the club operating effectively on a day-to-day basis - Having OARC athletes recognised and participating at National and International levels - Full introduction of a new OARC Club kit
Footnote: there have been some Situations during 2025 which the club has had to navigate alongside it’s governing body (scottishathletics) that have impacted the clubs ability to accept intakes of new junior athletes. The club is hoping to be able to address these waiting lists in the New Year.
3
Brief statement of the charity’s OARC aims to operate with sufficient reserves to cover the policy on reserves essential running costs of the Club for a minimum 6-month period should there be no income / funding secured. This value is deemed to be £20,000 — the Club has a Reserves policy in place which is reviewed at the end of each financial year. The policy for 2025 was reviewed and approved on 23" September 2024. Details of any deficit Nia Donated facilities and services The club relies heavily on volunteers to be able to operate - all (if any) Coaching Staff, Board / Committee / Office Bearers, Officials and Fundraisers are volunteers and the Club is hugely appreciative of the time every individual gives in support of the Club and its athletes. Sponsorship, Funding and donations are also of great importance to the Club and we gratefully acknowledge all financial support and donations of goods during the year.
The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees’ report above.
