Activities
'It carries out activities or services itself'
'the advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science'
The Society advances public education in the history and heritage of policing in Lanarkshire and its constituent forces. We provide public benefit by increasing knowledge and understanding of local policing history through meetings, talks, publications, research, and community engagement. We work to identify, preserve and promote access to historic police archives, documents and artefacts, ensuring this important aspect of Lanarkshire’s civic heritage remains available for educational and research purposes. Our activities are open to the public, and any fees charged are set only to cover costs and not restrict participation. We also encourage and publish research into Lanarkshire’s policing history for wider public benefit.
Objectives: The object of the Society is to advance the public education in the history and heritage of Lanarkshire police and its constituent forces. In the furtherance of that objective, the Society aims to act as a focal point and network for all who are interested in the subject, to encourage the preservation of relevant police archives and artefacts and promote their accessibility to the general public and to forge and maintain strategic links with the local community and relevant academic institutions. It is also our intention to encourage research into all aspects of the history of the police in Lanarkshire and to publish the useful results of such research.
