Jeanfield Swifts Community FC SCIO

Report of the Trustees For The Year Ended 31 August 2024

The trustees are pleased to present their report and the financial statements for the year ended 31 August 2024.

Structure, Governance and Management

The Charity is incorporated as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), governed by its constitution and registered with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator on 24 August 2020 (charity number SC 050390).

The organisation is composed of

The SCIO continues to be managed by an Interim Board comprising the individuals who signed the Charity Trustee declaration forms which accompanied the application for incorporation of the organisation. The Interim Board has as a top priority the election and appointment of additional trustees and intends to hold a GM in the near future to ratify this.

The names of those who served as trustees during the year and other reference and administrative information is shown on page 2.

Objectives and Activities

The main purposes of the charity are:

The year 2023/24 was mainly about continuing to support the organised football offer, in both the boys and girls pathways, and building on the success of community projects developed under the Community Liaison Officer who had departed late Spring 2023.

Following on from the Summer Camps in 2023, which we ran using volunteers and sessional coaches, we also put on an October Camp during the October half term, with 24 children attending.

Winter training space was once again an issue between October 2023 and the end of March 2024. We once again booked out Bertha Park for two and a half nights a week, and North Inch Communtiy Campus for one night a week, in addition to one or two odd slots to fill gaps. We look forward to the day when we can accommodate all teams’ winter training needs at Riverside Stadium.

Report of the Trustees (continued)

With a view to resolving the lack of a floodlit all-weather facility, we submitted funding applications to Gannochy Trust and the Scottish Football Association in 2024. Gannochy gave us an agreement in principle and the Jeanfield Swifts FC Trust, which was formed after the sale of the first team’s former home at Simpson Park in Perth provided an agreement in principle for £300000. With a heavily over-subscribed funding round, the SFA placed us on a deferred list and asked us to return to the application later in the year. Our other funders remain committed to our vision for a modern facility at Riverside Stadium that meets the needs of a growing and increasingly diverse community.

In Spring 2024, some 12 months after the departure of a Community Liaison Officer, we welcomed a new Football Development Officer into post in coordination with our partners LiveActive Leisure. His remit covers specific objectives in using football as a medium for supporting mental health, and we are grateful to LiveActive Leisure and Perth & Kinross Council for their assistance and support to fund these objectives, using grant funding that had been obtained in the previous year.

One of the projects run by the Football Development Officer during the second half of the year under review was the “Welcome League”, which provides an opportunity for young men staying in Perth while awaiting asylum claims to be processed to play football. This is an essential outlet for a group who would often otherwise be excluded from such activities. The links between physical activity and mental health are well known and the club is proud to have been able to support this.

At the start of the year we were happy to reopen the club lounge, which had been refurbished following a major water leak and flooding in the previous year. The lounge has been redesigned and is now much more welcoming. It is being used increasingly by groups from outside the club, including Perth & Kinross Council’s Communities Team. We aim to further increase this usage in the coming year and eventually take the management of the lounge over from the first team committee, where it currently sits.

Report of the Independent Examiner To the Board of Trustees of the Jeanfield Swifts Community FC SCIO

I report on the accounts of the Jeanfield Swifts Community FC SCIO for the year ended 31 August 2024, which are set out on pages 7 to 11.

Respective responsibilities of Board of trustees and Examiner

The charity’s Board of Trustees is responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (the Regulations). The Board of Trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (d) of the Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the Board of Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent Examiner’s statement

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

  2. to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and

  3. to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

have not been met, or

  1. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
