Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of The Men's Shed is now a key community facility at the heart of the charity during the financial period island life. During the year we took on numerous community projects and we are now approached on a regular basis with requests to help out where local businesses are unable or unwilling to quote. The area around the Shed has a long history stretching back to the Herring Industry of the nineteenth century. More recently it was used as a storage area and commercial yard for a local shop keeper and haulage contractor. Over the years it became very run down, full of rubbish, and an eyesore in the heart of Kettletoft township. The Men's Shed have spent the last year removing rubbish, clearing the ground, and rebuilding the old stone dykes which had fallen into a ruinous state. This work has made a tremendous difference to the township, and we continue to improve our environment with plans to build a large memorial bench out of stone, in the form of a herring, to celebrate the past industry of this remote community. Planning continues for our steel portal frame extension and we hope to reach the build stage during 2026. This will allow us to relocate the workshop into the extension, create storage, and dedicate the current building to quieter crafts such as the very popular stained glass works.
