Liberating Cinema is a non-profit charitable organisation committed to the representation, restoration, and exhibition of world cinema heritage. Our charitable purposes are: 1) The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science. 2) The advancement of education. and 3) The advancement of environmental protection or improvement. The Liberating Cinema Restoration Lab brings archivists, restoration specialists, curators, critics and historians of cinema into dialogue to facilitate education, training, and public benefit. The Liberating Cinema Film Series has run at British Universities since 2015, providing a platform for premiering films and bringing in dialogue filmmakers, industry and academia through a variety of discursive panels and interactive events. Our work is made publicly available and we run a digital video library where all our content can be seen in open access.
Beneficiaries: 'No specific group, or for the benefit of the community'
Objectives: The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science through the representation, restoration and exhibition of world cinema heritage by 1) sustainably sourcing, selecting and obtaining films of world cinema for cultural representation in the UK and beyond. 2) initiating, organising and conducting film restoration projects for the purposes of repairing and preserving cinematic works of cultural importance for world heritage. 3) disseminating the films via programming in local, national and international film series, festivals, museums, national picture houses and theatres, and encouraging distribution through digital, and DVD/Blu-ray platforms. The advancement of education by providing an educational platform for premiering films and bringing in dialogue filmmakers, industry and academia with the public through a variety of masterclasses, discursive panels, film festivals, and/or interactive events. The Liberating Cinema Film Series is designated the organisation?s major and immediate platform for showcasing the films in Higher Education Institutions. The advancement of environmental protection or improvement through the restoration and preservation of the films by appropriating proper environmental conditions for and storage of the films respectively.
