Structure, governance and management Registered as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). The name of the organisation is "Kirsty Maxwell Killed Abroad Holistic Support Charity". The organisation's purposes are the advancement of health and Wellbeing, and the relief of those in need by reason of age. ill-health. Disability. financial hardship or other disadvantage. by providing Support and assistance to those primarily from Scotland but also those From other parts of the UK who suffer a bereavement in respect of a Death that occurred out with the UK. Trustee recruitrnent and appointment All trustees on board are volunteers who have been by brought on board by inviiation as people who have the relevant skills both practical and theoretical to ensure we have the necessary skills to help run the charity on behalf of those requiring our services.
Achievements and performance We have continued to be available 2417 to assisl support and listen to people who come to us with hope to help triem get the answers they seek. We have managed to sign post, advise those in need what their next steps could be to further their cause. We have a great network to tap into including tran¢lators and case reviewers. We have been thanked for our courteous and understanding but most of all our sincertty and conndenii¢lity in dealirbg with what is distressing circumStans. We have managed to become part of and have a substantial input into the recently released Scottish Government MOU Scotland guidance on Deaths abroad. push and exert pressure on relevant bodies and to give leverage to those left abandoned by authorities wtth nowhere else to turn. Our volunteers give up their own free lime to help and assist whenever they can.
Our I rustees and Volunteers at.Fend events to enable the public to our chancy and its cause and assistance we can offer. Flnancial review We have like othei charities suffe,"ed from the lasting financial issues from Covid. I hese are challenging times whpre people do noi readily carry or have cash to spare dorlations and cop..lbUllon5.
However we have been meeting our goal of helping and 8SSlSting others to get the services and help they seek. We also are gearing ourselves up to meet the policy on ensuring those we assist remaTn confidential. Statement of the charity's policy on reserves We intend to use all monies within the account to assist families as per our organisation's charitable purposes. We shall ring fence an amount of £1000.00 for emergency use. This we feel is a minimum amount we must maintain in order to enable the charity to function as a Support charttable organisation to help and assist in fighting for families and other victims of loved ones killed abroad. Future plans We will remain active in seeking to address the imbalance that resides between the Legal systems within the United Kingdom. We are in continued consul:IiV£s ialks withe the COPFS. Scottish Govement and VSS on a MOU document lo assist those from Scotland with a loved on8 killed abroad. The mitigating differences between the COPFS system in Scotland and the Coroner system in England and Wales has shown that those families from Scotland are perhaps at a disadvantage from the onset. In our opinion more should be done in all UK legal systems to help those families get more help and assistance when dealing wilh a loved one who has been killed abroad. Additional inforniation We have been humbled and surprised ai the enquiries we have received from families all over ihe UK seeking out our help and assistance. Post pandemic, people still need support and help.
Sadly we have experience in dealing wtth a suspicious unexplalned death abroad of a loved one and we waD.t to use this painllY gained experience in helping, assisting and supporting others who find themselves in a similar position. We have been fortunate to have people raise funds to enable us to act when an enquiry is received, to access services that may help people in their quests. to sign post and generally just be there if people want to talk. We have formed a netsvork with others to collaborate arid suprx)rt those in need, but as volunteers we do this in our ovjn time, no one is paid and all donations raised go to the b=nefil oi those we are aiding. We don't have an ambassador but li someone is willing to step forward and help us highlight and put a spotlight on the lack of formal and mandatory help there is from UK govemments to the inadequaCi85 of legal jurisdictions abroad ihell please do.
