Mintlaw & District Men’s Shed Treasurer’s Report for Period ' 1* June 2024 to 31% May 2025 ofIn mysecondfull financial year as treasurer I have to report a financial loss £843.93p. This is due to the large expenditure incurred in the building of our new workshop to house our picture framing enterprise so generously gifted to us by HM I am certainthat this deficit can be turned into a gain next year, knowing the amount of income the picture framing can produce. This year we managed to secure grants totaling £14,168 comprising £10.000 from the National Lottery Fund for the purchase of a quad bike, £479 from Age Scotland, £1000 from Arnold Clark, £1165 from the Buchan Development Partnership and £1524 from Bank of Scotland. These grants have been spent on new the Quad Bike (tractor) for use in the woods and the yards, First Aid courses and the up-grading of various tools and pieces of equipment.

As most of the grant monies are for specific projects, the spending is ongoing until these projects have been completed.

Also, we continue with some members now making some items to sell to boost our income towards everyday running costs, with garden seats, bird boxes, bird feeders and tables again contributing towards this income. We continue to receive donations of tools and equipment from local people by the way of garage clearances. Some of this we retain for our members use, others we are able to sell, again to boost our income towards our day to day expenses.

This year we have continued to carry out many work projects in the local area, in Aden Country Park and with local schoolchildren, all designed to show that the Mintlaw& District Men’s Shed is a part of, and a valuable asset to the community. Once again, the challenge for us all for the next financial year is to ensure that we keep up themomentumof projects and fundraisingto maintain a firm foundation for the future of our Shed, its present and future members. The Aden Picture Framing social enterprise will generate a regular income for our shed but even with this steady injection of funds we should not lose the aim of the Men’s Shed which is to provide a warm and welcoming’ place for those who wish to join us and to be a caring and helpful group within our local community.

Annual General Meeting 18" August 2025 — Chairman’s Report
----- End of picture text -----

Following on from my last Chairman’s report of 19" August 2024 it is now my responsibility to give the résumé for this past year. This is my fourth full year in my role as Chairman and it is my privilege to offer this report to the members at this year’s AGM.

A full uninterrupted year of work and projects has again been undertaken along with some exciting new things that have taken place which | hope to cover in this report. This has enabled us to work on projects for the Community, enhance and build / extend the shed and to meet the mentoring of the Mintlaw Academy boys whom we continue to have working alongside us. This year sees the departure of three of our boys and the start of three new lads. The moving on of the three boys is simply due to a change in the school timetables which means that they cannot fit the Shed visit into and around the core subjects that we insist we should not disrupt.

Since our last AGM we have gained some new members who are now working very happily with us and also some have decided to move on. Age is of course a great concern for the members and with the aging process comes the usual health problems. It is therefore with great sadness that | have to report the passing ofJ a member and Trustee of the Shed on 21° July this year. Although [iJ was not so able, he was a committed member of the Shed and attended as often as his and his wife’s health problems permitted. You will be sadly missed il

Sitting down to write this report, and following on from last year’s one | again must cast my mind back to all the work and projects which we have undertaken since August of last year. We have again been able to carry out quite a lot of things and so a great deal of different tasks and achievements have been reached. As | indicated in my last report, | could simply write a list of what | have noted down and leave it at that, but for the purposes of the report it requires me to say a few things about each item. Again, they may not be exactly in chronological order but simply as they have come to mind.

So here are a few lines as an update on some of the projects that we have been involved with since my last report. They are by no means everything we have achieved this past year but simply a brief resumé.

The past year has seen us working with the Mintlaw Academy boys involving some very worthwhile projects including the construction and erection of a new building within the site to house a picture framing workshop. (I will write about this further on in my report.) Community work consisted of a shelter play house for Longside school, removal of felled trees from various wooded areas including the Fairy Woods within the park, a bird table for a sheltered housing complex in Crimond, conversion of a church pew as a kitchen installation, attendance at the New Deer agricultural show, fitting new vinyl to a church toilets in Maud, large planters to Longside school, building of a car port, presentations to various Church Guilds and Rurals as well as being part of the visit of Her Royal Highness the Princess Anne to Aden County Park to name but a few. With the aforementioned visit we were invited to paint and refurbish many doors and windows in the park courtyard so as to spruce up the place prior to Princess Anne’s arrival. Assistance with the usual Christmas lights putting up and taking down in the village as well as attending a Christmas Fayre in a sheltered housing complex over the Christmas period to promote our members scroll saw crafts and other skills. Finally, to maintain the Shed safety, First Aid training was carried out for the Shed members as well as Friends of Aden, BDP and Buchan Pat Testing with funding obtained from the Buchan Development Partnership fund. __ District Mens_ SCIO Charity Number $Co049326

Our two main achievements this past year has been the purchase of a quad bike through funding by the National Lottery Community Fund. The building of the Aden Picture Framing workshop and the erection of a garage to house the Quad bike were completely funded entirely by the Men’s Shed. The quad bike has enabled us to remove felled trees which we are able to cut into manageable sizes trunks, saw them into logs and split them for a winter supply of fuel for our wood burning stove. This has managed to reduce the energy supply costs to the cottage and maintain a source of heat during the colder months.

The second main achievement has been the construction from scratch of a workshop within the yard to allow us to begin the Aden Picture Framing workshop as part of the Mintlaw and District Men’s Shed. This building has been placed within a walled area, again constructed by a member of the Shed. The owner of the business known as The Framers Workshop had decided to look towards retirement and offered us his well-established picture framing business. The members saw this as a means of generating an income for the Charity which in the long-term would reduce the need to constantly look for grant funding, so decided that this would be a good fit for the charity.

As part of the completion of the Aden Park Heritage Lottery Fund work in Aden Park, the Princess Royal was invited to view the work to the park. As part of the partners in the park the Mintlaw and District Men’s Shed were invited to provide a display table. So on the 8" April in what turned out to be a glorious day, some Shed members along with three of our Academy boys were presented to Her Royal Highness when she attended our display.

Although it was stated in last year’s report, | think that it is always worth remembering our aims as stated in the constitution: 4.1 “To provide recreational facilities and advance the social needs and well-being for adult males, 18 years and over, living in Mintlaw and surrounding areas, through creating, developing and maintaining a facility, namely a Men’s Shed” 4.2 “To support adults in need by reason of age, ill health, disability or other disadvantage through reducing social isolation and providing opportunities for adults to meet and take part in social, creative, physical, purposeful and recreational facilities of their choice, and to develop their capacity to share their skills and knowledge with others in the community”.

So, with these thoughts in mind let me conclude this report by thanking the members of the shed, the committee, and the Trustees for all their work and support they have given me in another year as chairman.

All in all, as we move forward, we hope that our plans and fulfillment of these plans will become reality in the closing stages of 2025 and on into 2026.

;

Thank you very much.

Mintlaw and District Men’s Shed SCIO Trustee Report for 2025

We have continued to function as a Men’s Shed since the last report which was produced for the AGM of 2024. ;

Again the past year has seen the Shed involved in Community projects including such things as the construction of a play / shelter shed for Longside school as well as a couple of sand pit play areas, a bespoke birds table for the Crimond old folks home, the refurbishment of a church pew for a kitchen extension and the painting of many doors and windows for the impending visit of Her Royal Highness The Princess Anne to Aden Park.

The supply of wood in the shape of trees have been sourced and transported to our polytunnel to be cut and stored to supply fuel for our wood burning stove for the winter. This has been sourced from friendly land owners who require the area cleared and also from the Fairy woods within the park where we have removed many fallen trees.

A great deal of work has been carried out in the yard to erect a further shed from scratch to house and commence our newly established picture framing workshop now known as Aden Picture Framing. This was a business we acquired from a local gentleman who is looking to reduce his working hours but still wants to maintain his established business. By taking over The Framers Workshop and rebranding it under the Mintlaw and District Men’s Shed, we see this as a means of having some financial input to the Shed thereby reducing the need for fund raising in order to maintain the charity. The Aden Picture Framing workshop has been in place for a little over two months and is proving to be a great success. OSCR was contacted and agreement reached that this business does not affect the charity status as our constitution allows us to operate a business which can feed back money to the charity.

During this past year we were fortunate to have been awarded a Lottery Foundation grant which allowed us to purchase a quad bike. This bike also allows us to haul and transport the felled trees from the various sources and transport them back to our Shed. This is by far a safer and better method than using our own vehicles and ensures that by proper insurance cover everyone involved in the operation remains safe. The ethos of the Men’s Shed is to further all members health in general and to combat social isolation, mental health problems and make all adults in general aware of how to overcome loneliness. By continuing to meet and provide these mentoring facilities it allows the members to feel wanted and a part of the community again when age and insecurity might otherwise creep in to those of a certain age. The projects which have been undertaken also provide a better understanding in the community as we try to build up connections with how we meet the needs of various groups, schools and partners within the surrounding area of the park in which we are based. However, age is always against us and we have to announce the passing of one of our members and Trustees on 21% July. You will be sadly missed Ivan.

One of the major events in which we were involved was the visit of the Princess Royal to the park and some members and three of the boys were presented to Her Royal; Highness at our display table on the 8 April on what turned out to be a glorious day weatherwise.

Signed :-
