Independent Examiner’s Report to the trustees of Medieval Bruce Heritage Trust

| report on the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2025, which are set out on pages 1-3.
Respective responsibilities of Trustee and Examiner
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities & Trustees Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 (“the 2005 act”) and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) regulations 2006.(as amended) (“the 2006 regulations”).
The charity’s trustees consider that the audit requirements of Regulation 10(1}(d} of the 2006Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section (44)(1}(c) of the 2005 Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of Independent Examiner’s Statement
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently, | do not express an audit opinion on the view of the accounts.
Independent Examiners Statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
- Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect the requirements: To keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Regulations and
To prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 9 of the 2006 Regulations
Have not been met, or
- 2 to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached:

Medieval Bruce Heritage Trust Annual Report 2024 - 2025.
In February 2025 (financial year 2024-2025) we held our A.G.M showcasing the work of the Bruce 750 event in 2024.
In February 2024, the Trust worked in partnership to secure the support of many partners and funders to launch the event Bruce 750 including local businesses, Dumfries and Galloway Council (Events); Historic Environment Scotland; People's Project Dumfries; and other local charities, with a plan to launch a six month programme of celebration events beginning in February 2024 to July 2024. Many speakers and organisations involved with medieval history were engaged.
The result was a highly successful programme of events across Dumfries and Galloway accumulating in a weekend of celebrations and free activities in Dumfries Town Centre and Castledykes Park in July 2024. A medieval market was also held with a wide range of traders taking part.This programme attracted many visitors to our town and raised awareness of the work of the Trust and the role Dumfries played in the shaping of Scottish history.
The Trust attended many other events including the Guid Nychburris festival, Japanese Festival, presentations, re-enactments, costumed storytelling and school visits.
After the highly successful Bruce 750 event in 2024, the Trust began seeking a venue for a small visitor centre located in Dumfries with the aim of expanding our work further.
The Trust welcomed a new trustee.
