Achievements & Performance -

Chairs Report: East Pollokshields Quad for Financial Year End March 2025.

The East Pollokshields Quad has achieved considerable success in terms of its charitable purposes in the period in question (March 2024 to March 2025). It has continued to be an accessible green space for the local community, used by individuals of all ages and backgrounds and local community groups and be regarded as a hub for inclusive civic participation.

Key activities focussed on ensuring community groups continued to have access to the space; organising free and inclusive community events; community-led development of the space.

3

This work was supported by charitable donations and through securing grant income from various supports. Both of these streams of income grew in the period in question, indicating the work done by trustees to ensuring that the charity remains on sustainable financial footing.

Collaborations continued to grow with local community groups and organisations through regular events and activities open to community members. Groups included Woodcraft folks, local nurseries, and the Village Storytelling Centre. In Autumn the charity hosted its annual Festival of Light celebration, a remarkable achievement, seeing well over a hundred attendees present with music from artists based in Glasgow, exceptional middle eastern food and a lantern parade around the local area. In the summer the charity organised a social gathering with activities led and food cooked by local volunteers. Funding received enabled the charity to also improve the facilities used by groups and individuals; the roof of the marquee was replaced with more durable material.

A notable feature of all activities that occurred was the fact they are free of cost. The charity has thought long and hard about trying to ensure that the demographic that attends events is representative of the local community and has made progress in this respect.

The charity also received funding to co-develop and co-build a play area in partnership with local residents and architects from Made From Scratch. A number of community activities took place to involve residents of all ages in shaping and developing ideas for the play area together, while strengthening connections with the space and each other.

Finally, it falls on me to acknowledge the obvious fact, that none of the above would be possible without those who volunteer and give their time to the Quad. This is a statement to the community spirit of the area that it does exist, and continues to thrive.

Chair of the East Pollokshields Quad.

Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of East Pollokshields Quad

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2025 which are set out on pages 7 to 9.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees (who are also the directors of the company for the purposes of company law) are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (a) to (c) of the 2006 Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner’s statement

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

  2. to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1) (a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

  3. to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 8 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

have not been met, or

  1. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
