East Dunbartonshire Women’s Aid is set up to support women, children and young people who are experiencing, or have experienced, domestic abuse, including coercive control. Our aim is to improve safety, wellbeing and long-term outcomes, while promoting equality, human rights and freedom from abuse. We do this by providing free, confidential and trauma-informed support across East Dunbartonshire. This includes refuge accommodation, outreach and follow-on support, crisis response, safety planning, advocacy, and specialist support for children and young people. We also deliver group work, prevention and early intervention activities, and awareness-raising and training for professionals. Our work is grounded in feminist values and a person-centred, user-led approach. We work closely with partner agencies, including through MARAC and local violence against women partnerships, to ensure women and families receive coordinated and effective support.

Objectives: 7.1 The SCIO will promote, advance and further charitable purposes through working as a woman-only organisation:- 7.1.1 to provide temporary refuge for women and their children (if any) where the women have suffered abuse (mental, physical or sexual) in their home or within a relationship with a partner or family. 7.1.2 to offer support, information and help to any women and their children (if any) who ask for such help whether or not they are refuge residents and also to offer support and information to any women and children who have left a temporary refuge. 7.1.3 to encourage these women to determine their own futures. 7.1.4 to provide the opportunities for the educational and emotional needs of the children (if any) to be met, particularly those resident in refuges. 7.1.5 to encourage statutory authorities and other agencies to recognise their obligations, legal and otherwise, towards abused women and their children (if any) and to act accordingly towards the prevention of abuse and the relief of suffering. 7.1.6 mindful of the fact that abuse ? mental, physical, sexual ? is the result of the position of women in society, to promote education and to inform the community and their representatives with respect to the abuse of women and its prevention. 7.1.7 to encourage research into the causes, the prevention and relief of such suffering and abuse. 7.1.8 to encourage such training both for ourselves and others as will best meet the objectives of the group. and 7.1.9 to do all other things as will properly attain the above purposes.
