Charitable purposes

Summary of the main activities in relation to these objects

The purpose of the Charity is the saving of lives, to keep a watching brief on all activities on or near water around the rivers and sea. This includes the public and wildlife. To assist the emergency services and local authority as required. To upskill Coastwatch Scotland (CWS) volunteers by learning and gaining certification through the Royal Yachting Association. To assist any organisation with events on or near water. To attend and assist at fund raising events. To raise the profile of CWS.

Coastwatch Scotland (CWS) plays a crucial role in assisting all blue light emergency services with activities on or near water. They alert the proper authorities when necessary and are trained to support rescue operations, including helping to land the R199 rescue helicopter. CWS is part of the Safer Shores initiative, working with all emergency services to keep beaches safe. They also collaborate with the Partnership Approach to Water Safety (PAWS) group to address local concerns, raise awareness, and reduce incidents.

  1. Volunteers learn to assess and manage injuries such as cuts, burns, fractures, and sprains.

    • e CPRand AED Use: Training includes performing CPR and using automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

    • e Medical Emergencies: Handling situations like choking, allergic reactions, and shock.

    • e Victim Support: Maintaining calm and providing reassurance to victims until professional help arrives.

    • e Community Outreach: Volunteers visit groups to teach water safety and demonstrate defibrillator use. They also participate in gala days to provide first aid support.

  2. Rescue Techniques e Water Rescues: Safe approaches to aid drowning victims, use of flotation devices, and self-protection techniques.

    • e Equipment Handling: Training in the use of stretchers, ropes, harnesses, and other life-saving tools.
  3. e Team Coordination: Working with other volunteers and emergency services to execute efficient rescues.

  4. Educational Outreach

e Defibrillator Training: Providing basic defibrillator training to various groups and workforces. CWS has trained entire schools, from P1 to P7, on how to use a defibrillator, who to dial in emergencies, and CPR and recovery positions. This comprehensive training ensures that CWS volunteers are wellprepared to assist in emergencies and contribute to community safety.
