Activities

'It carries out activities or services itself'

'the advancement of health','the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage'

Pet and Companion (PEACE for short) uses the comforting presence of dogs (canine therapy) along with caring, attentive listening (pastoral care) to help people in need of support and companionship. Our current support groups include: the elderly. patients receiving palliative care. students going through difficult times. and adults affected by homelessness and abuse. During PEACE sessions, the presence of the PEACE dog helps to create a relaxed environment in which the individual and the PAECE volunteer can enjoy conversation and companionship. The PEACE volunteer offers both a listening ear and a means of support, happy to talk through any concerns or fears a person may have. PEACE volunteers receive training in Mental Health First Aid, attentive listening and dementia awareness. They also have experience in advising people through difficult times. If requested, the PEACE volunteers can also pray with those they visit.
