community of which she was an active member.
2022 saw our most rewarding and challenging year. As we worked to ensure our communities voice was present and heard within the Alexandria’s Master and Neighbourhood plan activities, relentless focus on behalf of our community was the foundation for an outstanding year of delivery.
Creating new opportunities for our resident’s voice, particularly those of us who struggle to put our
best foot forward, was gift, and she continues to make a difference, no more so during this the last 12 month and beyond. A funny, loving, and inspirational woman. Her work continues.
If it ain’t from Yorkshire!
Activities and Achievements
Planned activities were greatly impacted due to COVID-19 restrictions. The periods between lockdowns enabled organic development of Leamy’s focus and activities which remained consistent with our aims and outcome. While continuing to deliver Better
Views and Learn and Grow projects, and alongside other community partners, we played an increasing role, in the development of a community engagement and participation framework for Alexandria residents whose views would, typically, would be neither sought nor valued.
Our activities delivered under the following projects
-
Better Views.
-
Learn and grow.
-
Alexandria Community participation and development framework.

What did it mean to people involved
‘The Leamy Foundation have worked in partnership with West Dunbartonshire Council regeneration team since 2019 to help identify and realise the future vision for Alexandria. In 2021 a new masterplan for the town centre was approved. The Leamy Foundation played a key role in the masterplan process ensuring that it complements the emerging community priorities for the wider Alexandria area around the themes of economic vibrancy, infrastructure, greener and sustainable place, health and wellbeing and heritage.
These priorities translate into the twelve key projects identified in the masterplan which will shape land use, development and change in Alexandria over the next 15 years. Community organisations including the Leamy Foundation will play an important role in the future delivery of many of the projects specifically those relating the green heritage and walking and cycling networks.’
, WDC Regeneration
The Leamy Foundation has worked in partnership with West Dunbartonshire’s Communities Team for several years working to deliver projects that make physical change to the environment around Alexandria but also positive change in people local people they work with and who come into contact with. Through the energy and commitment of The Leamy, Alexandria now has a Community Council for the first time in a generation, a Locality Place Plan is very close to completion, a Traders Association has been established and local people and community groups have a route to funding projects and events to support their ambitions.
Raising aspirations and expectations in people and the local community is key to the work of and The Leamy Foundation. They challenge The Communities Team and WDC to deliver better for the community, which we welcome, but they also challenge local people to produce more for themselves and to not accept that nothing can change.
