Spean Bridge, Roy Bridge and Achnacarry SCIO
Chair’s Report 2024/25
The Charity has had a busy and productive year as detailed by Tony just now.
We have held 5 meetings since the last AGM with much progress being made on the wide variety of projects, large and small, that we have ongoing. All of which stem from the original Community Action Plan.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the trustees for their continued commitment, support, time and enthusiasm. Valerie Steele, in particular, has embraced the role of treasurer and has instigated and been closely involved in many of the community sponsorship projects as well as raising the profile of the charity. The opportunity is available to any SCIO member who feels they could contribute skills and qualities to become a Trustee.
Mr Rik Eppens has stepped down as a Trustee and we would like to thank him for his time and support over the years.
We are delighted that our membership has increased and hope that even more of the community will join us as they see projects moving forward.
The Trustees are delighted that Tony Perriam, Our Community Development Officer, has committed to a further 2 years with us and funding for the post is being sourced from a variety of sources. Tony’s professionalism and diligence has kept all the projects progressing as they should. His expertise in the property sector has been invaluable in the negotiations with Highland Council for the former Roy Bridge School site. Tony ensured that my year as Chair has been much less daunting than it could have been and I would like to extend my personal thanks for his support.
The Trustees are very grateful to all those who have assisted us in the last year, both financially and with time, advice and support. Our funders who have enabled these community projects include SSE Renewables, Highland Council, HIE, Koehler Renewables, SSE Coire Glas, The Scottish Land Fund and Green Highland Renewables.
There are exciting times ahead, please take time to check out our Facebook page for updates on existing projects and any new items.
Our intention is to engage and work with other Charities and groups in the area and are confident that the wider community will benefit in the long term.
