Our SCIO is the only community development trust covering the whole of our Community Council’s 1,000 sq km area, with around 1,585 permanent residents. Membership is open to any resident, and our Board of Trustees meets six times a year, with an Autumn AGM. Our aims are promoting sustainable development, recreational facilities, education/training, environmental conservation, heritage, poverty relief and connectivity. We liaise with Highland Council, HIE, renewables operators and other funders to take advantage of asset acquisition opportunities which benefit the community. As at 2026, our major charitable projects are a 5-acre Community Garden and Riverside Woodland in Spean Bridge and the re-development of the former Roy Bridge School to provide 7 new affordable housing units for rent and 2 cross-subsidizing holiday apartments.

Objectives: 5 The Organisation’s main purpose is consistent with furthering the achievement of sustainable development. The Organisation’s purposes are 5.1 support rural regeneration following the principles of sustainable development, where ‘sustainable development’ means development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, within the communities of Spean Bridge, Roy Bridge and Achnacarry. 5.2 Encourage the relief of poverty in such ways as may be thought fit. 5.3 Encourage the advancement of education, training, retraining, particularly amongst unemployed people. 5.4 Promote the preservation of buildings or sites of historic or architectural importance. 5.5 Support the provision of recreational facilities. 5.6 Encourage the protection or conservation of the environment.
