Since 2020 The Occasion’s work has been focused on our adult learning disability theatre project, The Southside Group (TSG). There is a wide spectrum of learning disabilities within the group, an age-range of late teens to 60, anda current membership of 19. Working in a fully inclusive, supportive community-based environment TSG enables its isolated and vulnerable members to: • make new friendships. • learn new skills through high-quality support from experienced, professional artists. • find a ‘voice’ that, perhaps previously, they didn’t know they had. • build social and life skills that increase self-confidence and self-advocacy. • gain more control over their lives, influencing healthier living choices, self-travelling and self-esteem. • become better integrated into Glasgow’s social and cultural life. • be given a platform where members’ abilities can be witnessed and acknowledged.
