'the promotion of equality and diversity','the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage'
Renfrewshire Effort to Empower Communities (REEM) has an overall aim to ‘create awareness and increase participation of diverse Minority Ethnic communities in Renfrewshire’ We are working to achieve those aims by delivering bespoke activities which are targeted towards diverse equality groups as defined by the Equality Act 2010. Our support is to engage with marginalised and disadvantaged communities to promote community cohesion, inter-cultural dialogue, and mainstream equal opportunities. Governed by a Board of Trustees, two part time staff and many of our activities are volunteer-led and focus on the following areas: • Health and Well Being • Advice and Information • Community focused events and activities • Social and economic opportunities and advancement of communities through ESOL, Volunteering and Empowering services. Current projects include ESOL classes, drop-in surgeries and a befriending service that assists new migrants into the community through a buddy system.
Beneficiaries: 'Children or young people','Older People','People with disabilities or health problems','People with a particular ethnic or racial origin'
Objectives: The Charitable Purpose of the Renfrewshire Effort To Empower Minorities is to promote economic and social inclusion among immigrant communities within the Renfrewshire area . especially those from Africa and Eastern Europe to whom the UK environment may be very foreign, either in terms of language barrier or otherwise.
