DHS is a volunteer and deaf-led charity founded in 2008. DHS are committed to preserving and celebrating the history, culture, and activities of deaf people and deaf organisations in Scotland. The organisation has two core aims: • To support the discovery, research, and preservation of the history, culture, language, and communities of deaf people in Scotland. • To support Deaf people in accessing education, training, employment and opportunities connected to heritage and history DHS is also the caretaker of the Scottish Deaf Archive, or SDA, which is based in Edinburgh and holds more than 200 years of material relating to deaf communities across Scotland.

Objectives: To promote and advance the interest in discovery, research and preservation of the Scottish histories of Deaf- people, their communities, culture and language. (ii) To secure responsibility for the education, training, employment and general welfare of Deaf people in connection with their historical works by liaison, co-operation and consultation with the appropriate bodies and authorities charged with the administration of the various services of education, training, employment and general welfare of Deaf people.
