Stanley Development Trust (SCIO) exists to advance the wellbeing, resilience, and sustainable development of the community of Stanley and its surrounding districts. Our purposes include promoting citizenship and community development, supporting charitable projects that benefit local residents. We work to preserve and enhance the local environment through the improvement of public spaces and amenities, encourage and support volunteering, and provide recreational facilities and activities that improve quality of life. We also support individuals in need due to age, ill health, disability, financial hardship, or other disadvantage through our Care and Wellbeing programme.

Objectives: The SCIO has been formed to benefit principally the community of Stanley and adjoining districts, which comprises area defined by Stanley and the environs as defined by postcodes in Appendix 1(“the Community”) with the following purposes: (a) the advancement of citizenship or community development including the advancement of rural regeneration. (b) to promote, establish, operate and/or support other schemes and projects of a charitable nature for the benefit of the residents of the Community. (c) the advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science. (d) to preserve, restore and improve the environment through the provision, maintenance and/or improvement of public open space and other public amenities and other environmental and regeneration projects (but subject to appropriate safeguards to ensure that the public benefits so arising clearly outweigh any private benefit thereby conferred on private landowners). (e) to encourage, stimulate and support volunteering principally within the Community. (f) the provision of recreational facilities or the organisation of recreational activities with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended. (g) the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.
