The organisation converted from the charity and cornpany known as the G8org8 Mathay Brown Fellowship. retaining the charity number SC039924. Writing Orkney will continue the work of the George Mackay Brown Fellowship, to encourage and develop the praclitte ol cr8ative writing in Orkney. Previously, a5 the George Mackay Brown Fellowship, activities in 202&24 were as follow5. Two publirAlions, Salt Songs and A Glisk of Sun, w&r8 launched towar(Is the end of 2023. Sall Songs, an anthology compiled and edited by was the culrnination of the Words into Music project in 2021- part of th8 Grg* Mackay Brown c6ntenary.11 has been very well r8tsived and is sellin steadily. A Glisk of Sun, a compilation of Ihg naturè writin kr)own as Countrywoman) by her granddaughter nehed in18te 2023. Pul logglher lo mark tha centenary of irth, it contlnues lo be a popular publication. selling steadily through local bookshops. as The Orkrw Voices and Wirdsmit groups continued to flourish during 2024. Orkn$3y Voices were asked to read al several festivals and events, and recorded the 2022 anthology Gousters, Glims and Veer-0mS, which is now 8vailable as an audio book on the Vimeo plattomi. Founder and o)ordinalor tepped back from a leadership role in the group, wf(h group MgmtrrS agreeing to lake turns lo coordinate session8. The Wirdsmit group held regular monthly meetings, and held events at the Orkne Nature FestNal and the Orkney Science Feslival. Coordinator gave notice of her plan to step down in early 2025. Trustees are exploTing options for the fulure of the group.
