Management of The Scout Group The group's governing documents are those of The Scout Association. They consist of a royal charter, which in turn gives authority to the bye laws of the association and Policy, Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association. The group is a trust established under its rules which are common to all scouts. The trustees are appointed in accordance with Policy, Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association. The group is managed by the group executive committee, the members of which are the 'charity trustees, of the SCOLrt group, which is an educational charity. As charity trustees they are responsible for complying with legislation applicable to charities. This includes the registration, keeping proper accounts and making returns to the Scottish charity regulator, as appropriate. The committee consists of 3 independent representatives, chair, treasurer and secretary together with the group scout leaders, a sectional assistant and parents, representation and meets every 3 months, or as required. Members of the executive committee complete 'Essential Information for Executive Committee, training within the first 5 months of joining the committee. This group executive committee exists to support the group scout leader in meeting the responsibilities of the appointments and is responsible for: The maintenance of group property The raising of funds and the administration of group finance. The Insuran of persons, property and equipment; Group public occasions,. Assisting in the recruitment of leaders and other adult support; Appointing any sub committees that may be required.
Appointing group administrators and advisors other than those who are elected.
The Purposes of Scouting Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. The Values of Scouting As Scouts we are guided by these values: Integrity - We act with integrity; we are honest, trustworthy and loyal. Respect - We have self-respect and respect for others. Care - We support others and take care of the world in which we live. Belief - We explore our faiths, beliets and attitudes. Co-operation - We make a positive differen", we co-operate with others and make friends. The Scout Method Scouting takes place when young people, in partnership with adults, work together based on the values of Scouting and: enjoy what they are doing and have fun - take part in activities indoors and outdoors learn by doing - share in spiritual reflection - take responsibility and make cholS undertake new and challenging activities make and live by their promise.
Governance of The Scout Group Constitution 1 St Avoch Sea Scout Group are govemed by our constitution which sits comfortably with the values and aims above and also with the overarching governing documents and royal charter of The Scout Association. 1st Avoch Sea Scouts are proud to be recognised by the Royal Navy for our high standards of programme and safety.
Report from The Group Scout Leader As restrictions began to ease throughout the pandemic, scouting was able to resume in a more nonnal fashion. Mobilising the fleet was a priority to give our sea scouts opportunities to get afloat. We have delivered a mixture of small and big boat activities with awards in canoeing, powerboating, nautical skills and other land based awards. Yacht Freebyrd and Cruiser Scout About are now in regular use. Our day sailing vessel Lomond has been recommissioned. Extensive updates to leader training have been undertaken with all leaders and instructors qualified in first aid. The cub section has now moved to their own timeslot and are well supported with an active programme. The sea scouts are undertaking a wider range of activities on land and sea. A number of explorers are undertaking young leadership roles in the other sections and even other scout groups. It is pleasing to report that we have seen steady growth in cubs, sea scouts and explorers throughout the year. Our next goal will be to try to introduce beaver scouts to the group. The decision to refresh our unrforms was very successful and the whole ship's company look splendid.
l am grateful to the group executNe and leadership team for their continued support of our young people as they strive towards excellence. Financial review Income= £48,827.65 Expenditure- £46,370.84 Surplus= £2,456.81 Statement of the charlty's policy on reserves The trustees hold sufficient reseNes such that the charity is able to continue to meet its objectives for the foreseeable future and meet any unexpected expenditure as it arises. The trustees consider that a reserve equal to one yearfs costs is appropriate. The costs for the year (for the building and assets} were £15,433.89 and there is an unrestricted reserve to carry forward of £30,176.31. The trustees are therefore satisfied that the charity operated within their stated reserves policy in the period ending 31 March 2021 and will continue to do so for the forthcoming year. It is noted, however, at the time of this report to the AGM that the cost-of-living crisis is highly likely to have a significant impact on fInanS going foDNard.
