		Constitution
		Trustees are recruited and appointed by nomination at the Annual General Meeting. All appointees must be seconded and have a minimum of two years association with the choir. The Management Committee includes four office bearers, up to twelve committee members, the Conductor(s) (ex-officio), and three senior choir representatives.
Objectives and activities

		The objective of the Glasgow Youth Choir is the study and practice of choral music and to further the musical education of young people and foster public knowledge and appreciation of such music by means of public performance. To promote equality and inclusion of young people from all backgrounds through music.
		The Glasgow Youth Choir provides musical education and performance opportunities for singers age 5-25 from across the Greater Glasgow area. The choir is organized into two sections, Juniors and Seniors, with rehearsals held weekly in Glasgow city centre. Members perform in annual Spring and Christmas concerts and a wide range of charity events, church services, and collaborations with organisations that share the choir’s commitment to equality and inclusion. Beyond regular rehearsals, the choir also engages in workshops, competitions, and music festivals to support members’ musical development.

Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the financial period

The period to August 2025 was one of continued growth and development for Glasgow Youth Choir. Membership increased to 24 Junior members and 23 Senior members, representing a return to preCOVID levels. The GYC Legacy Choir also continued to flourish with 35 regular members. In December 2024, the choir was awarded a £3,000 grant from the Merchant House of Glasgow. The funding enabled the choir to purchase new uniforms, subsidise activities that enhanced members’ experience and wellbeing, and waive membership fees for two young people whose families were experiencing financial hardship. This support helped ensure that financial circumstances were not a barrier to participation in the choir’s activities. The choir maintained a busy programme of performances and community engagement throughout the year, in addition to its annual Christmas and Summer Concerts. Members performed at a range of charitable, community, and cultural events, including the Alzheimer Scotland Memory Walk, the Light Up Christmas Charity Ball, and a BBC Radio 2 Christmas live recording. These opportunities enabled members to develop their musical skills, gain performance experience, and contribute to the wider community through music. The Junior Choir was honoured to be invited as special guest performers at the Glasgow Male Philharmonic Choir’s Centenary Concert in May 2025. This was a significant opportunity for young singers to perform alongside an established choral organisation and recognised the high standard achieved by the choir. The choir continued to participate in the Glasgow Music Festival, with both Junior and Senior sections achieving excellent results. Shortly before the festival, Musical Director Audrey McKirdy sustained a broken ankle and was unable to conduct for eight weeks. Former Glasgow Youth Choir member Siobhan MacAulay stepped in at short notice, taking over rehearsals just two weeks before the competition. Her leadership provided continuity during a challenging period, gave members renewed confidence, and contributed significantly to the successful festival performances of both choirs. Member engagement and community building remained an important part of the choir’s activities. A Family Ceilidh held in January brought together members, families, and supporters from both the Junior and Senior sections, strengthening relationships across the organisation and reinforcing the choir’s inclusive community ethos. The Trustees consider the year to have been one of significant progress, with membership returning to pre-pandemic levels, increased performance opportunities, successful grant funding, and continued delivery of the charity’s objectives. Through musical education, performance opportunities, and inclusive participation, Glasgow Youth Choir continues to provide significant public benefit by supporting the personal, social, and musical development of its members.
