I am delighted to introduce this report for the year ended 31 December 2025, my first full year as Chair of World Horse Welfare. Against a most difficult political and economic backdrop, which is �����������������������������������������������������������������further good progress across all of ��������������������y: ������������������������������������������������������������������������������ ��������������������������������������������������������������������������������������� understanding of horse welfare both here in the UK and more widely around the world.

���������in the UK, we respond to nearly 3,000 welfare concerns raised by the public, around 2,000 of which �������� �����������������������������alongside more than 1,300 follow-������������ensure that welfare standards are being maintained. We also ���������������horses each year from abuse and neglect, bringing them into our four ������������������������������������������������������for the horses to be rehabilitat�������������������������������� being matched with ���������������������������������������������– the largest of its kind in the UK. Around 2,200 horses, ponies and donkeys are cared ��������������������������������������������������������������������������� team. Alongside this, ������������������������������learning, helping our ��������������������refine their approach, support research and education, and bring ������������������on ������������������������������������������ Britain. This allows us to �������targeted, ��������-backed influencing that benefits �����������������������those in our direct care.

���������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������� ������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������ conditions, which can cause a wide range of health and welfare problems, including illness, ������and disease. In early February 2025, we identified an outbreak of Strangles, a highly infectious respiratory disease���������������� the temporary closure of our ������������������ to new admissions and rehoming.
