South Lanarkshire access panel was set up to advise council and public about issues with access to public buildings, road crossings ,and entrance and exits to new or updated buildings . To bring access issues to the attention of council or owners that are used by the public, advise on disabled access to areas where disabled people might wish to go. The access panel was set up to give members knowledge and sometimes training on building standards and planning, reading plans to give advice at an early stage of building warrants.

Objectives: The aims of the Access Panel shall be to: work to raise awareness and promote equality issues- ensuring people with disabilities are provided with the same opportunities as others encourage social inclusion and help to create an accessible environment for all have a real input to the decisions and policies of statutory bodies and other organisations concerning access and issues which affect people with disabilities
